Pike Industries

SERVICE:

Air Permit

DESCRIPTION:

Pike Industries operates a four-stage, 300-ton per day granite crushing operation at a site in Websterville (Barre) Vermont. The plant planned to expand by adding a new rock crusher and an asphalt batch plant. Unfortunately, the facility had been cited by the Agency of Natural Resources in the past for fugitive dust emissions. Specific concerns were raised regarding emissions of silicon quartz dust. Aa part of the new air permit, an air quality modeling study was designed to investigate both the existing and planned operations combined. A dust control technology assessment was completed to identify the level of dust control needed to comply with Vermont and federal ambient air quality standards for the existing operation and the proposed expansion. A permit application was prepared that demonstrated compliance with the Hazard Limiting Value (HLV) for silica, quartz dust, and with all VT Ambient Air Quality Standards.
