SERVICE:

Air Pollution Permit

DESCRIPTION:

An air pollution permit application for an expansion to Okemo Mountain in Ludlow, Vermont was prepared. This expansion will increase skier CCC from 6,610 to 10,000 and add 200 dwelling units for a total of 2000 more parking spaces. A microscale analysis predicted CO concentrations at three roadway intersections in 1989 and 1994. All three intersections will be overcapacity in the future for the peak hour. Projected CO levels should comply with air quality standards.

In 1998, the permit was amended to take into account new parking spaces in conjunction with a new 10-year Master Plan. A microscale air quality analysis was repeated at three intersections, two of which were the same as those in the original application. The EPA CAL3QHC2 and MOBILE5a Models were used for the analysis. The analysis demonstrated that CO levels in year 2004 would be in compliance with the NAAQS for CO.

Key Points

  • With past analyses in mind, a microscale air quality analysis was performed at three intersections to detect CO levels around the location of a proposed parking area.
  • The analysis demonstrated that with increased parking spaces, CO levels would be in compliance with current regulations.
