TD Bank Noise Assessment

SERVICE:

Sound Study

DESCRIPTION:

Tech performed an interior noise assessment in a TD Bank in Nashua, NH. The bank was located adjacent to a Chipotle Restaurant, and the noise generated during peak hours at the restaurant was impacting the bank employees. The demising wall between the two businesses was inadequately constructed, Tech was asked to assess the construction of the wall and offer further mitigation recommendations to improve the wall. During peak activity hours at the Chipotle restaurant, Tech collected baseline sound level readings in the TD Bank office space. Additionally, measurements were collected in the open ceiling space to assess current design sound attenuation. Although Tech found that the difference in the sound levels between peak hours and off peak hours were barely perceptible (less than a dBA difference), octave band readings found low frequency sounds from the restaurant were being emitted through the wall and ceiling area. Tech made several acoustic treatment recommendations to enhance the wall sound attenuation capability. After the demising wall had been reconstructed, based on those recommendations, Tech performed a second round of testing. The sound monitoring results found a significant improvement in the overall sound levels in the bank.

Key Points

  • Because of employee complaints inside a bank office setting, Tech was asked to perform a noise assessment to determine interior sound levels.
  • Tech collected baseline sound level readings and made recommendations on the demising wall construction to further approve sound attenuation.
