ConRAC Emergency Generator

SERVICE:

Air Dispersion Modeling Analysis

DESCRIPTION:

Tech performed an air dispersion screening modeling analysis for the emergency generator to be located in a parking garage at the Logan Airport Consolidated Rental Car (ConRAC) facility. To conduct this analysis, Tech used the EPA approved model in screening-mode based on the worst case meteorological conditions. Using the modeling, Tech was able to perform an analysis of the building downwash, including cavity calculations as well as an analysis and selection of background air concentrations from MassDEP monitoring stations near the site. The modeling was performed for a variety of air pollutants to determine compliance with the NAAQS for the stack height design. Through the modeling, Tech was able to show that the current stack height above the enclosure did not cause an exceedance of the NAAQS and therefore a stack extension was not necessary.

Key Points

  • Tech was asked to perform a screening modeling analysis for an emergency generator to determine if the current stack height was out of compliance with the NAAQS.
  • From the modeling, Tech was able to conclude that the stack height, although more than the required 10 feet, does not cause an exceedance with the NAAQS and therefore is in compliance.
