Landowner Access Bridge

SERVICE:

New Permitting for Access Bridge

DESCRIPTION:

A private landowner desired a bridge over the Mad River, post-Tropical Storm Irene, to access a 40-acre forest parcel. This bridge would require state and local stream alteration and development permits. Tech staff hosted the VTDEC and local Development Review Board at the proposed bridge site and reviewed all design assumptions with respect to flood zoning, setback requirements and use of best construction practices to protect water quality. State and Local permits were acquired and input from neighbors was included via abutter notifications and a final public hearing. Once the permit was approved it was likely that the construction may be delayed, so guidance on keeping permit approval active was provided.
