3323Aggregate Industries - Sound Mitigation and Compliance Testing
SERVICE:
Sound Mitigation and Compliance Testing
DESCRIPTION:
Project Description: Aggregate Industries retained Tech Environmental to assist with the design and selection of appropriate sound walls to be installed on the secondary crusher/screen, two tertiary crushers and the 8 x 20 double deck screen at the relocated non-metallic mineral processing plant on Ayer Road in Littleton, MA. Tech coordinated with a local acoustical products vendor to design and install the sound walls to achieve the sound attenuation used in the acoustical modeling analyses approved by MassDEP and the Littleton Planning Board.
Tech was also responsible for three monthly sound compliance monitoring sessions to confirm that the relocated plant complies with both the Town of Littleton Noise Bylaw and the MassDEP Noise Policy. Per the requirements of sound compliance monitoring protocol prepared by Tech and approved by the Town and MassDEP, sound compliance monitoring was performed within 30 days of start-up of the relocated facility and continued for a three-month period; daytime compliance sound monitoring was performed twice per month. Sound monitoring was done when the primary, secondary and tertiary crushers were all in full operation. The results of the each sound compliance monitoring demonstrated that relocated plant was in compliance with both the Town of Littleton Noise Bylaw and the MassDEP Noise Policy. The following year, Tech performed two semi-annual sound compliance monitoring sessions, which were based on the same sound compliance monitoring approach used as part of the monthly monitoring sessions. Again, the results of the semi-annual sound compliance monitoring demonstrated that the relocated plant complied with both Town and MassDEP noise regulations.
Key Points
- Tech was asked to assist with the design and selection of appropriate sound walls to be installed on various rock crushing equipment.
- Tech confirmed through sound compliance monitoring that the relocated plant equipped with the recommended sound mitigation measures complied with the Town and MassDEP noise regulations.
