SERVICE:

Air Dispersion Modeling for Garage

DESCRIPTION:

Tech Environmental was retained by Weston & Sampson to perform a fast-track air quality impact study for the analysis of the emissions from vehicles idling inside the Department of Public Works' 17,000-square foot maintenance garage in Weston, Massachusetts. The impacts from vehicles idling inside the Weston Public Works' Garage were estimated using vehicle emission data from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) MOBILE6.2 model and then modeled using the EPA-approved AERMOD dispersion model to predict impacts in the surrounding area, including the adjacent building.

The air quality modeling was performed to document that Massachusetts and National Ambient Air Quality Standards (NAAQS) will not be exceeded. The NAAQS have been designed to protect the public health and welfare with a margin of safety. This analysis demonstrated that the vehicles idling in the garage will fully comply with the NAAQS for all pollutants and averaging periods.
