DESCRIPTION:

Tech performed an initial odor and noise assessment for a Korean H-Mart supermarket in the greater Boston area. The exhaust from food preparation ovens was impacting condominiums located up on a hill behind the supermarket. The odor was extremely variable and often considered unpleasant. Food preparation exhaust was emitted from dozens of roof vents. Tech identified the primary vents of concern and determined the level of odor control treatment that would be necessary to eliminate odor nuisance concerns. Tech recommended both dispersion and odor control solutions to tackle the identified vents.

Tech also performed a noise mitigation measures evaluation for the rooftop condenser fans on the supermarket. Noise complaints from the adjacent condominium complex occurred when the condenser fans first began operation. Tech conducted sound source and ambient noise monitoring to assess the existing noise impacts from the condenser fans. Tech used the Cadna-A acoustic model to assess the potential noise reduction capabilities of noise control alternatives. Tech recommended the construction of a rooftop sound wall on three sides of the condenser fans to reduce sound to compliance levels.
