Condominum Odor Control Study

SERVICE:

Odor Impact Assessment

DESCRIPTION:

Tech Environmental conducted indoor air quality testing of a basement hallway at the One First Condominium complex in Cambridge, MA. The purpose of this testing was to investigate a foul, "rotten egg" odor that periodically emanates from the area. The initial results of the sampling program found detectable levels of hydrogen sulfide (H2S). The finding that H2S is the odorant of concern was supported by the detected sampling concentrations and descriptions of the events as smelling like "rotten eggs."

Tech conducted a 10-day continuous monitoring program, obtaining grab samples using summa canisters. Tech evaluated a number of odor control options including a gas phase (carbon) filtration system. Tech recommended that One First Condominiums install a small, packaged gas phase filtration system, and provided oversight of the installation of the system.
