PSNH Merrimack Station Upgrades

SERVICE:

Independent Review of Noise Analysis

DESCRIPTION:

Tech Environmental was retained by the Town of Bow Planning Board to provide an independent technical review of the potential noise impacts from the modified 470-megawatt coal fired power plant at the Public Service of New Hampshire (PSNH) Merrimack Station in Pembroke, NH. PSNH proposed to install new scrubbers and a new stack as part of a "Clean Air Project." A noise monitoring and modeling study was performed by the acoustic consultant for PSNH to assess potential adverse noise impacts from the plant modifications.

In reviewing the noise report, Tech found that there were adequate design provisions in the proposed plant modifications that would produce sound levels at or below the target sound levels described in the noise report. The results of the sound modeling analysis show that future sound levels would be below the target sound level.  Tech identified the critical components that required vendor sound level guarantees to ensure a successful plant upgrade.
