GE Hudson Dredging Project

SERVICE:

Dredging Noise Control Plan

DESCRIPTION:

Jay Cashman conducted dredging operations on the Hudson River for General Electric (GE). The firm retained Tech Environmental to prepare a noise control plan that would govern its activities.

The goal of the noise control plan was to minimize dredging noise impacts on nearby residents along the Hudson, and to ensure compliance with EPA project regulations at nearby residential locations. Tech examined the earlier dredging noise modeling and monitoring work by another consultant to see if any additional measurement or modeling work was needed. The plan included a list of equipment such as a clamshell dredger, tugs to be used on the project, and any other associated equipment. Tech identified mitigation measures to help ensure compliance with the EPA standards. Tech also developed a noise mitigation contingency plan in the event that dredging activities exceeded EPA noise limits.

Key Points

  • Dredging operations and clean-up of the General Electric site on the Hudson River required a noise control plan to minimize impacts.
  • Tech developed a plan that included mitigation measures to minimize dredging noise impacts on nearby residents along the Hudson, and to ensure compliance with EPA project noise regulations.
