DESCRIPTION:

Tech Environmental, Inc. provided acoustic consulting services to Boreal Renewable Energy Development of Acton, MA in their installation of a 600-kW wind turbine on the campus of Gordon Conwell Theological Seminary in South Hamilton, Massachusetts. Located adjacent to the main seminary building, the Fuhrlander FL-600 wind turbine on a 50-meter tower would provide most of the seminary's electrical energy.

Tech Environmental performed baseline ambient sound level monitoring in nearby residential areas, which was correlated to wind measurements from a meteorological tower. Manufacturer's sound power data were used to calculate future sound levels with a sophisticated 3-D acoustic model to demonstrate compliance with the MassDEP Noise Policy. Compliance was demonstrated for both the cut-in and design wind speed conditions for the wind energy project.
