Greenbrier Condominiums

SERVICE:

GHG / CO2 Emissions Analysis

DESCRIPTION:

Tech performed a greenhouse gas emissions analysis for the proposed Greenbrier Condominiums Project in Seekonk, Massachusetts. This analysis quantified carbon dioxide (CO2 ) emissions for the base case and initial Project design, and the mitigation case and final Project design.

This analysis used the Tech Environmental Energy Model, using data and algorithms from the U.S. Department of Energy, Energy Information Administration (EIA), and the American Society of Heating, Refrigerating and Air-Conditioning Engineers.

The final design includes mitigation measures that reduced the Project's direct and indirect energy-related emissions of CO2 from its North and South Parcels by approximately 27% and 42%, respectively. The larger CO2 reduction for the South Parcel is made possible by the energy efficiencies provided by the cogeneration plant. The Project incorporates Sustainable Development Principles with a design that promotes compact, cluster development and land conservation.

Mitigation measures for transportation emissions include a number of transportation demand management (TDM) strategies for the Project. These measures will improve traffic operations, reduce Project generated vehicle trips, and reduce Project-related motor vehicle CO2 emissions by approximately 7%. Overall, mitigation measures in the final Project design are expected to reduce the Project's total CO2 emissions by approximately 31%.
