Calais (ME) LNG Project

SERVICE:

In-Air Noise Analysis for Offshore LNG Terminal

DESCRIPTION:

Calais LNG is proposing to construct and operate a Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) receiving terminal and storage facility on the outskirts of Calais, Maine. The project's 330-acre site is located approximately seven miles south of downtown Calais and features 2,800 feet of shoreline along the deepwater banks of the St. Croix River.

The Calais project's proponents consider Calais the best LNG site in the Northeastern United States because of several factors, including its close proximity (approximately 20 miles) to the existing Maritimes & Northeast pipeline, the topography of the land which prevents visibility from Route One, its proximity to an industrial facility across the river in New Brunswick and the relatively minimal length of its pier.

On behalf of Woodard & Curran, Tech has performed extensive monitoring of baseline sound levels in the vicinity of Calais. Tech is actively working with the Calais LNG project to demonstrate compliance with federal, state and local noise ordinances and standards, including a light impact & mitigation study.
