SERVICE:

Noise Study for Proposed Store Expansion

DESCRIPTION:

A Wal-Mart on Route 114 in Woonsocket, Rhode Island was proposing an expansion and required a noise analysis to satisfy the City Planning/Design Review Board. Nearby residents and the Board were concerned by increased noise from new refrigeration fan condenser units,  an increased number of truck deliveries, new loading docks that are closer to residences, and refrigeration units on cold-food trailers parked at the loading docks.

Tech Environmental completed a noise study to determine whether the operation of the proposed expansion would comply with accepted residential noise guidelines at the nearest residences. The study involved measuring existing sound levels at locations surrounding the project site, and using a sophisticated 3-D acoustic model to calculate the sound levels from the store at various locations around the site.  Compliance with the noise guidelines was established.
