SERVICE:

Residential Greenhouse Gas Analysis

DESCRIPTION:

A developer, proposing a 240 unit multifamily development off of Wheeler Street in Methuen, Massachusetts, was required to perform an energy and air quality analysis to address the Massachusetts Executive Office of Energy and Environmental Affairs (EOEEA) greenhouse gas (GHG) Policy for certain MEPA projects. The Policy requires a project to quantify carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions and identify measures to avoid, minimize or mitigate such emissions. In addition, the Policy requires the proponent to quantify the effect of proposed mitigation in terms of emissions reduction and energy savings.

Tech Environmental performed an energy and air quality analysis for the Regency at Methuen residential development. The analysis used the Tech Environmental Energy Model which uses data and algorithms from the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) Energy Information Administration (EIA). CO2 emissions produced by Project vehicle trips were analyzed using the EPA MOBILE6.2 Mobile Source Emission Factor Model.

Key Points

  • A proposed multifamily development was required to perform an energy and air quality analysis.
  • Tech used its own "Energy Model" to minimize direct and indirect greenhouse gas emissions from a residential project.
