SERVICE:

Noise Analysis of Proposed Medical Office Building

DESCRIPTION:

A 45,000 square foot Medical Office Building was proposed on the grounds of Jordan Hospital in Plymouth, Massachusetts.  The site abuts a residential area.  An appeal of a zoning board permit for the project surfaced concerns from neighbors that the project could be a noise nuisance, particular concerns  were traffic related sounds and potential sounds from car doors closing, people talking, car alarms in the parking lot, and dumpster emptying activities.

Tech completed a noise impact analysis to identify the effect of the proposed facility.  Sound from the rooftop HVAC units for the Medical Office Building and miscellaneous sound sources in the parking lot were analyzed using a sophisticated 3-D acoustical model for sound propagation and attenuation based on ISO standards.  An analysis of construction-related sound levels was also conducted to assist in the permit review process.
