DESCRIPTION:

Tech Environmental, Inc. provided acoustic consulting services to Sustainable Energy Developments, Inc. of Ontario, NY in their installation of a 100-kW wind turbine at the Hyannis Country Garden nursery on Route 28 in Hyannis, Massachusetts. Located adjacent to the nursery's greenhouses, the Northwind NW-100 wind turbine began operation in late 2008 and provides most of the electrical energy for Hyannis Country Garden. The project was developed with a grant from the State's Renewable Energy Trust and the U.S. Department of Agriculture.

Tech Environmental performed baseline ambient sound level monitoring in nearby residential areas. Manufacturer's sound power data were used to calculate future sound levels with a sophisticated 3-D acoustic model to demonstrate compliance with the MassDEP Noise Policy. Compliance was demonstrated for both the cut-in and design wind speed conditions for the wind energy project. The 120-foot tall wind turbine is prominently featured on Country Garden's website and represents a tangible commitment by the business to renewable energy.
