DESCRIPTION:

A wastewater treatment plant in Southbridge, MA, was in the beginning of a proposed expansion and needed odor experts to help reduce odors from the facility in order to gain approval from local stakeholders.

Tech Environmental conducted a thorough odor assessment of the Southbridge WWTF. Several facility site visits were conducted and the existing plans and O&M practices and procedures were examined. Speciated odor sampling was conducted at different parts of the plant. This information was then used as part of a dispersion modeling study. Tech distinguished between typical wastewater and typical composting odorant impacts as a tool to explain to neighbors, regulators and owners the degree of odor control expected in the future. This study also allowed the WWTP to develop a strategy to use control technologies and practices to reduce odors from the facility.
