DESCRIPTION:

A developer for a proposed Lowe's store in Cromwell, CT needed a sound study, acoustical modeling, and mitigation recommendations to ensure that sound from the store would comply with local guidelines.

TE conducted baseline sound level monitoring at locations along the property lines abutting the nearby residential areas to establish the existing sound condition. Acoustic modeling with CadnaA software was performed for the proposed Lowe's store. Tech predicted the maximum sound levels from mechanical rooftop equipment and other sound sources at the nearest residential property lines and inhabited dwellings around the site. Predicted sound levels were compared to existing background, average and maximum sound levels. Future sound levels were compared to the CT DEP Noise Regulation and the Town of Cromwell Noise Ordinance limits for residential and commercial areas. A noise mitigation plan was proposed and modeled in order to demonstrate compliance. Tech experts gave a presentation at a public meeting about the project.
