SERVICE:

Air Quality & Noise Analyses for BRA Review

DESCRIPTION:

The 240-242 Tremont Street Project needed air quality and noise analyses to demonstrate compliance with applicable regulations as part of a Boston Redevelopment Authority (BRA) Large Project Review.

The air quality analyses consisted of an evaluation of existing air quality and an evaluation of potential carbon monoxide (CO) impacts from the operation of the Project's fuel combustion equipment. Based on this information, a microscale CO analysis was not required.

Tech also performed a noise analysis for the Project to provide an evaluation of existing noise levels with a comparison to HUD residential noise criteria and an analysis of potential noise impacts from the building's exterior mechanical systems and demonstration of compliance with City of Boston and Massachusetts Noise Regulations at nearby sensitive locations. Noise measurements were taken near the project site during the early morning to establish the existing background sound levels at sensitive locations around the project site. An analysis was made of the potential noise impacts from the exterior mechanical equipment for the proposed project. This study demonstrated that the projected noise levels from the building's exterior mechanical equipment will not exceed specified City of Boston, HUD, and MassDEP noise regulation criteria.
