Radiation Monitoring SOP Development

DESCRIPTION:

A landfill operator needed help in responding and dealing with possible landfill shipments containing trace amounts of radioactive ma­terials from medical waste.

Tech Environmental assisted in the development of Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) for dealing with landfill shipments containing radioactive materials. Tech also developed a monitoring station design for the State to use at other disposal facilities, including equipment specifications and SOPs for State response and the use of monitoring equipment. Tech met with the landfill operators and with New Hampshire officials to discuss the specific response procedures to make sure that all parties were in agreement. A formal response for presentation at a public meeting was also developed.
