Sound Study Review

DESCRIPTION:

The Sisters at a Monastery near the Langley Parkway in New Hampshire needed noise experts to review a noise study and suggest mitigation measures to reduce the noise impacts being experienced on their property. They were unable to relax and meditate due to traffic noise.

Tech reviewed the noise study and its conclusions for accuracy. If built as designed, the Langley Parkway would have produced sound pressure levels exceeding the Federal Highway Administration's (FHWA) Noise Abatement Criteria (NAC) and produced a "traffic noise impact" on portions of the Monastery property used by Sisters and their guests for walking trails and quiet meditation. Tech performed additional noise modeling and suggested mitigation measures to prevent an adverse noise impact. Discussions were conducted with the City and the engineering firm that originally conducted the work in order to change the project design in a way that was satisfactory to all stakeholders.
