Indoor Air Monitoring for OSHA Compliance

DESCRIPTION:

First Student Inc. needed to demonstrate compliance with US Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) requirements regarding indoor air quality at a bus maintenance facility in Boston.  Tech was asked to respond quickly with monitoring that met the requirements of OSHA.

Personal air samples were administered on four bus maintenance personnel during the worst-case shift.  The purpose of the air monitoring was to assess the suitability of the air quality inside the facility during the peak daily 8-hour period, to determine whether the air pollutant levels comply with the OSHA Permissible Exposure Limits (PEL). The air testing showed that the technicians working in the maintenance facility were not being exposed to unhealthy concentrations during the worst-case shift at the facility, and all levels were in compliance with OSHA limits.
