Paper Mill Wastewater Treatment Plant

SERVICE:

Odor Control Design and Procurement for WWTP

DESCRIPTION:

Tech Environmental recommended a new catalytic activated-carbon system for a paper mill wastewater plant. The plant accepts mostly paper mill wastewater, but also accepts some sewer connections and septic system discharges. The carbon system was part of a complete cover, capture, ventilate, and treatment plan for a 65-foot diameter storage tank. Tech Environmental reviewed vendor cover submittals and determined infiltration rates, ventilation rates, and proper air flow patterns.

Four odor control technologies were considered and catalytic carbon was chosen as the best fit based on cost, efficiency, and system requirements. Tech Environmental worked directly with vendors to achieve an optimal installation at a reasonable expense. Tech then turned the procurement process over to the paper mill. This approach assured that proper system requirements were met at the best final price. Tech Environmental subsequently supplied odor control selection documentation to the Massachusetts DEP for approval.

Key Points

  • A paper mill required a new odor control system for its wastewater treatment plant to prevent odor impacts on its neighbors.
  • Tech evaluated four technologies and ultimately chose and designed a catalytic carbon system as the most cost-effective and appropriate option.
